My friend Jonathon Kyle Sturgeon conducted an interview with me about the website, which is now online at Flavorwire. It was a great chance to share some of the weird headspace I’ve been occupying while working on the website, and to talk about some of the more interesting responses it’s provoked. It’s also been mentioned on French Slate and Book Forum.
French people have been much more open to Permuda Triangle than anyone else. I knew it would find its audience eventually.
Thank’s to Kyle’s interview many more publications have taken an interest in the site. Their reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, and I’m very grateful to them for their encouraging words and thoughtful reflections. Here are a few I’ve come across:
Los Angeles Times: Borges’ ‘Library of Babel’ comes to virtual life
Slate (English): Jorge Luis Borges’ “Library of Babel” Is Now a Real Website. Borges Would Be Alarmed.
There have also been some responses from around the globe, including articles in Greek, Polish, Spanish, and Macedonian.
These articles date from before the library was updated to its present form. Originally the library contained only a million texts, but now contains about 293200.

The Guardian has published the first article about libraryofbabel.info since it became a legitimate universal library. I love the links they include at the end to texts in the library of babel – including a link to the article itself.

A few more journalists have done interviews with me about libraryofbabel.info. The resulting articles have been some of the most thoughtful that have come out about the site. Here’s a lovely one in The Independent and another in an Italian publication, La Stampa.
My thanks to Nick Clark and Pablo Lombo.

Artur AvelarHello from Brazil. A science magazine from here published an article about the project. It’s in portuguese.
A ‘Biblioteca de Babel’, de Jorge Luis Borges, virou um projeto digitalThank you for sharing, Artur! I’ll post a link as well to the recent piece in Quartz which this article references – This is the first article about the library to mention the Babel Image Archives.
I wrote an essay about Borges’ short story and how my reading of it has changed since working on the website. It was published in The Paris Review Daily: http://www.theparisreview.org/blog/2015/07/23/the-library-of-babel-as-seen-from-within/
There’ve been two interviews published recently in Spanish-language journals. I consider both to be some of the best to date. The first was conducted in English and translated:
Lanacion.com – El bibliotecario de Babel: la ficción de Borges hecha realidad virtual
And the second displays my faltering attempt to compose in Spanish myself:
Nexos – Construir la Biblioteca de Babel. Entrevista con Jonathan Basile
I find that foreign publications have offered far more leeway than English-language ones to discuss philosophical and literary themes related to the project.
The library’s been popping up in a few more places on the web:
In the Smithsonian Magazine’s Innovation section
and an AskReddit Post led to this article on redditors’ 10 favorite “websites you’ve probably never heard of”
I love reddit.
Charles EscalanteHow would one get into contact with the person who created this site to discuss something concerning this site in private?
Hey Charles. I’m always happy to discuss – you can find my e-mail and a link to my twitter account on the about page.
John Pavlus wrote this lovely article about the design challenges posed by the library: http://www.fastcodesign.com/3054727/how-do-you-design-a-ux-for-infinity – it brings out some interesting aspects of the project that other articles haven’t.
Luke Van Den Barselaar has written a lovely article describing his experiences searching and reading through the library: http://isismagazine.org.uk/2016/01/lost-in-the-library-of-babel/
An interview has been published in French in Paris Match: http://www.parismatch.com/Actu/Sciences/Il-a-cree-la-bibliotheque-infinie-925591
They also made a somewhat hilariously epic youtube video about the site: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tStqF_oMG8Q
