i wrote a thesis once on a book which begins with these words                   
                                                                                
im burned out and starving to death, so im just going to lay this all on you and
trust that you are a visionary reader.                                          
                                                                                
it took me some years to grasp the essential message of all that work, because i
knew, going in, that true meaning cannot be said, it can only be lived. yet here
were a whole group of writers who knew this even more acutely than i did, who   
nevertheless still felt compelled to write. though they all knew they could not,
by definition, tell the truth, they sensed somehow, deep down, that visionary   
readers would be able to see that their desire to speak truth was itself true.  
                                                                                
that, if you can establish trust, then everyones knowing that you cannot tell   
the full truth is exactly the condition which allows for an unspoken truth to   
grow between. my truth is not your truth, but my honest and authentic expression
of it, and your open hearted, fully human listening to it, grounds us in the    
actual truth which both transcends us always, and is embedded within everything 
we do and say, in all of the ways in which we choose to respond.                
                                                                                
it is the call of a yearning heart and the rhythmic response of another who     
feels the same, but expresses it differently. it is the eagle and the condor    
flying together. it is lover and beloved, come together in love, burnt down to  
barest essence.                                                                 
                                                                                
now, only three things remain. hope, faith, and love. but the greatest of these
